Our Founder’s Story

My journey began in a childhood marked by profound adversity and abuse, instilling in me an early understanding of trauma and the desperate need for support. For over a decade, I endured mental and physical abuse, experiencing isolation and the constant threat of violence. This period cultivated an acute awareness of mental health struggles and led to severe suicidal ideation during my teenage years. Despite a system that often failed to protect, and the emotional burden of constant struggle, I developed an extraordinary resilience and a unique ability to connect deeply with others.

A pivotal moment came when a high school principal recognized a spark of uncommon strength in me, encouraging me to pursue a GED rather than continue in a traditional academic path that was not serving me. This advice, initially met with anger, became a turning point, allowing me to focus on work and rapidly advance in various sales and service roles. I consistently rose to the top, demonstrating a natural gift for understanding and helping people—a skill forged in the crucible of my early life. At 32, I finally took and passed the GED, validating that earlier decision.

My innate desire to serve others eventually led me to create Love for St. Louis, a nonprofit dedicated to providing pro bono counseling services. This venture, though challenging—especially launching at the onset of COVID-19 and involving significant personal financial sacrifice—deepened my understanding of the mental health landscape and the critical need for accessible care. I learned invaluable lessons about nonprofit operations and the profound impact one can have by stepping into the gap.

After a period of rebuilding personal resources, I've channeled all my experience and passion into the Missouri Mental Health Network. This endeavor represents a wiser, more educated, and deeply committed return to my core mission: to help others overcome their own situations. My ultimate goal for the Missouri Mental Health Network is to become the largest mental health provider in the state, offering comprehensive counseling and social work services, and eventually expanding our reach.

My past has taught me the importance of forgiveness and the power of healing. Now, with every ounce of my being, I am dedicated to dedicating my life to helping others navigate their struggles, just as I navigated mine. This is not just a business; it's a lifelong commitment to ensuring that no one faces their battles alone.
